Perfect Halloween Post: Scary seller with a scary house
How fitting for a October post.
The new house I just inspected smelled of warm death and was so creepy it was perfect- I had to buy it!
It even had a black cat in the basement. Unfortunately it was long gone, I kid you not-ask my clean out guy.
But here’s where it got really scary…
After I spent a bit of time listening to the sweet old lady fondly remember growing up in the house we started talking price, terms and condition. My seller questionnaire has 3 vital questions about the deed to the property.
She did not pass question #1: the ‘seller’, it turns out, did not have the deed.
She claims her sister, after years of absence from the family, swooped in and made the parents deed it to her, leaving my seller in the house but with no ownership.
And while those two sisters were fighting over the estate a niece played referee.
Being a sucker for sweet old ladies I wanted to help this family put it all behind them and forward. So I came down of my minimum profit per deal (it’s my business, I do what I want). After giving the sisters the best price I could the story still did not have a happy ending.
After pro-rated taxes the sisters had to bring money to the closing.
But, as I explained, the ultimatum was increasing code fines and continuing bad blood among them. Most retail buyers want a turn-key home; very few are prepared to tackle a haunted house.

And the house was not getting any prettier.
All of which I duly pointed out to the seller(s).

There were some creepy issues apart from the sights and smells that would make for a good horror novel.
Ask me about them around the next camp fire. And keep me in mind when you need to move a house that has the ‘feeling’ you’re being watched and the sounds of chains!
See for yourself how SCARY it was
